Leeds 2-0 Birmingham: United go top of the league
Leeds United moved top of the Sky Bet Championship table with a 2-0 victory over Birmingham City.
Samuel Saiz's first-half strike, combined with Stuart Dallas' effort in second-half stoppage time, was enough to give Leeds the three points.
Saiz opened the scoring for the Whites with 17 minutes on the clock, Pierre-Michel Lasogga's powerful strike deflected into the air and presented the attacking midfielder with a tap-in on the goal line.
Jota was a presence in the Birmingham attack as the visitors looked for an equaliser, the defensive pairing of Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper were alert to the threat.
Ezgjan Alioski and Lasogga had efforts denied as Thomas Christiansen's men attempted to double their lead in the first half.
Birmingham came close to making it 1-1 but a header was cleared off the line by the scrambling Luke Ayling and Leeds held onto their 1-0 advantage at the break.
The Blues came close to scoring early into the second half, Colin's cross from the byline was about to find Jota, before Vurnon Anita did enough to prevent the goal.
Sam Gallagher then had opportunities to score, a quick free-kick played him through only the shot to be dragged wide of Felix Wiedwald's goal.
A nervy finale saw Leeds try to play down the clock, and Dallas' late effort was enough to secure a 2-0 victory and put Leeds United at the top of the tree after seven games.
